Síminn (Iceland Telecom) has 308 roaming agreements in effect in 126 countries

Síminn has established a backup connection for GPRS data transport to and from Iceland. The backup path is utilised for both incoming and outgoing GPRS traffic. Upon disruption of the main connection, the backup connection automatically takes over so that there is minimal disturbance to customers' connections. The backup connection then utilises the connection each time that is operational with the rest of the world. The GPRS service is therefore better equipped to cope with breakdowns in the Farice and Cantat marine cables. In parallel with these measures, the bandwidth has been doubled so that there is sufficient available bandwidth. The connection is constantly measured to monitor whether increased bandwidth is needed.

Last year and this year to date, 29 new active roving agreements in 27 countries were added to Síminn's roving agreement service. Also, Síminn now has 308 active roving agreements with foreign mobile telephone companies in 126 countries. The number of these agreements is extremely important for customers who travel a lot and, for example, need to examine information by telephone.

Last year Síminn put three revolutionary software solutions on the market for cellular phones and palmtops. All these solutions provide customers with continuous access to their e-mail, diary and contacts. These involve Blackberry telephones and data telephones from Microsoft; in addition, Síminn offers software that can be installed in many types of telephones. Síminn's goal is to enable all sizes of companies to utilise the service. The use of GPRS services has increased considerably in the wake of these solutions. Customers have access to all of their information by cellular phone, whenever and wherever. Solutions of this kind suit those who travel a lot in Iceland as well as abroad and need to access their information in diaries and e-mails wherever they are.

Síminn's customers can use GPRS technology throughout Síminn's distribution system in Iceland; in addition, the expansion of the service to other countries has gone extremely well. There are now 100 active GPRS supplements in 46 countries, where Síminn's customers can now utilise a GPRS roving agreement, including for Blackberry phones.

Over the past year, Síminn simplified its price list for long-distance calls abroad to cellular phones from all countries in the world, so that Síminn's customers can monitor their telephone use better. Síminn divides the world into several areas in terms of price, geographical location and risk.
