Siminn made over 60 GPRS roaming agreements during the year
The number of countries steadily increases where Siminn's customers can utilize continuous GPRS data transport services. Siminn made over 60 GPRS roaming agreements during the year. Siminn now has 135 roaming agreements for GPRS. Through these agreements Icelanders can have good GSM and data transport connections while travelling - anywhere, anytime. Iceland was one of the first countries in the world to adopt GPRS service, and development in the field is continuous. Data transport via mobile telephone has increased slowly but surely, and more and more people are using Siminn's GPRS service. About 98% of Icelanders have access to Siminn's GPRS in Iceland.
GPRS telephones make it possible for Siminn's customers to be connected wherever there is a mobile telephone connection to the Internet. While travelling around the world, people can thus access their e-mail and diaries in addition to following issues of interest. In many parts of the world, including Iceland, GSM systems have been updated to the next generation of technology (EDGE). The main change customers have noticed after the update to EDGE is increased data transport speed. The speed can be up to four times as great in GPRS systems, compared with what is now the norm, and the possibilities of value adding service will also be many times greater.
Siminn continues to work at increasing the number of foreign roaming agreements so that our customers can have the best connections anywhere, anytime. The latest information about the countries where customers can utilize GPRS roaming can be found at www.siminn.is/reiki.
