Over the next several months, Iceland Telecom will initiate use of a new technology that will increase the speed of data transport over mobile telephones. The technology involved, called EDGE, is a step toward third-generation mobile telephone service. Increased data transport speed via the GPRS system, with the advent of EDGE technology, is part of the steady renewal occurring in Iceland Telecom's systems.

Íslenska sjónvarpsfélagid, a television broadcasting subsidiary of Iceland Telecom, has decided to open a new subscription station dedicated to English Football. This new station will show more football games in the English Premier League than has been done on Icelandic television before.

Continuous electronic communications have been established between the information systems of Brim, Eimskip and Icelandic Group PLC, with the participation of Maritech and Iceland Telecom. It will soon be four years that Iceland Group has strived to conduct all its transactions with seafood product producers through the electronic transfer of data between systems. With the collaboration of Brim, Icelandic Group Services, Eimskip, Maritech and Iceland Telecom, important results in e-commerce have been achieved.

Another stage in Iceland Telecom's digital television service via its ADSL system has begun. This week 11 municipalities in rural areas have been added to the group of 20 municipalities that has recently got access to digital television via ADSL.

In January Iceland Telecom signed a long-term agreement with Scandinavia Games regarding the sale of computer games on Iceland Telecom web sites, siminn.is and hugi.is. Iceland Telecom and Scandinavia Games began collaboration last summer when a game page was opened on hugi.is, but the companies have now increased their collaboration considerably in this area.

By decision of the Iceland Telecom Board of Directors, ownership of the company's Communications Museum on Sudurgata has been transferred to the State Treasury. This entails the building previously housing the old telegraph station and all of the objects exhibited there.

Every year Iceland Telecom Ltd. sends about 16.000 Christmascards to Companys and Institutions This year Iceland Telecom Ltd. will not be sending traditional Christmascards. Instead the Christmas Card Fund will be used for charity. Last year the fund lent its support to a Center for  children with special needs.

Operating profit at the Iceland Telecom group (Síminn; Landssími Íslands hf.) for 2003 amounted to ISK 2,145 m, according to the company’s income statement. This was similar to the figure of ISK 2,161 m for 2002. Operating income for 2003 was ISK 18,762 m, against ISK 17,958 for the previous year, while operating expenses rose from ISK 10,849 m in 2002 to ISK 11,381 in 2003.
